It’s a new year and the time many book and plan their summer holidays.
We know you travel the roads for work each day and maybe you like nothing better than to spend your two weeks’ holidays on the sofa watching TV. You might even prefer lazing on a sun lounger somewhere warm and sunny.
However, many of us might like to go on a road trip once in a while. Whether it is in Ireland for a long weekend or going further afield for a longer journey, each has its own pleasures. After talking to everybody in the office, quizzing several customers at the trade desk and chatting to the workshop guys at break time here are the Transway Fleet top recommendations for road trips.
Staying in Ireland
The Wild Atlantic Way: Yes, predictable but many say that reminding them of that amazing scenery has encouraged them to revisit many towns along the west of Ireland that they only explored as children years ago.
Wicklow Way: A short easy drive from the capital city, on a fresh spring day or in colourful autumn this drive down to Glendalough, the Sally Gap, Hollywood and beyond is hard to beat.
The Ring of Kerry: Starting and finishing in the beautiful town of Killarney this route is not just for the busloads of American tourists in the summer. The scenery is breath-taking with mountains, coast and pretty towns along the way.
Further afield
Route 66 in the USA: This is a classic bucket list journey for any enthusiast. Once the main route from Chicago to California, you can still drive sections of it and see the real small town America of the movies.
South Africa Garden Route: Staring in the vibrant city of Capetown and winding its way through wine country, mountains and sandy beaches. The scenery is only second to the wildlife you may see on the route.
Pacific Coast in USA: From San Francisco to San Diego in the south of the Californian state. Big sur is always the highlight that will be mentioned. But with many pretty quaint towns along the way, wine country and glitzy LA it’s a hard one to beat.
Many more road trips were mentioned by our team but most of them remain dreams for the moment. So when you are sitting on the M50 in traffic or waiting to unload at a depot in the depths of winter in pouring rain. Let your mind bring you to a nicer road trip.
